Academy of Fine Arts in Prague was established in 1799 by decree passed by Emperor Franz I. With its rich history and tradition, the institution played a significant role in the formation of a modern Czech culture of fine art. The Academy of Fine Arts has the status of a public university and it is well placed to offer intensive, focused support for the development of talent.

It has its own spacious north-facing historical ateliers with overhead lighting, as well as various technological workshops. It offers an individual approach and a clear system of teaching, within the framework of which it is possible to transfer between ateliers and disciplines.

The Academy of Arts, Architecture & Design in Prague was founded in 1885. Throughout its existence it has ranked among the best educational institutions in the country. It boasts a number of successful graduates who have gone on to become respected professionals, garnering acclaim beyond the Czech Republic. The school is divided into the departments of architecture, design, fine arts, applied arts, graphic and theory and history of art. Each department is divided into studios according to their specialist area.

The studios are all led by leading figures of the Czech art scene. Twice a year the school opens to the public for a presentation of student work, entitled “Artsemestr”. Each year the school organises over 15 exhibitions, half of which are shown abroad. Prague UMPRUM, as one of the only schools of former post-communist countries, is featured in the index of prestigious European and world art schools. In the worldwide QS World University Rankings UMPRUM ranked among the 50-100 most prestigious art schools in the world

The Academy of Performing Arts is the biggest and oldest Czech university level school of drama, film, TV, multi-media, music and dance studies. Theatre Faculty covers a wide range of disciplines: acting, directing, puppetry, dramaturgy, scenography, theatre-in-education, theatre management and theory and criticism. The school educates future theatre professionals, specialists in the field of culture, communications, media etc. 

International students can study at DAMU in the framework of European exchange programmes or enrol as individual short-term students. Film and TV School has been training practically all filmmaking talents creating Czech film for over 60 years. FAMU – with its traditions of artistic mentoring under top practitioners, its excellent technical support, and its deep curriculum spanning ten departments devoted exclusively to audio-visual media – is now open to foreign students as never before with short-term courses, exchanges, and world-class Masters Programmes

With its excellent research outcomes, international recognition, and over hundred-year tradition, Brno University of Technology (BUT) is one of the leading teaching and research universities in central Europe. Its programmes cover not only engineering but also fields of natural science, arts, IT and economics, with a strong interdisciplinary emphasis and close connection with the industrial sphere. With its state-of-the-art research facilities and academic excellence, BUT has a distinguished reputation among students and professionals.

With its 19 thousand students and 8 faculties, BUT is the nation’s largest technical university. Established in 1899 by Emperor Franz Joseph I, Brno University of Technology (BUT) is the Brno city oldest university.

The College of Polytechnics Jihlava is the only public HEI in the Vysočina Region. The aim of the 3-year Bachelor´s programmes and the 2-year follow-up Master´s programme is to provide students with theoretical knowledge and comprehensive practical training. 

The language of instruction in most programmes is Czech with English courses to complement the curricula. Applied knowledge and career guidance enhance graduates´ employability. There is a strong need for IT and health care professionals in the Czech Republic.

The Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) is one of the largest and oldest technical universities in Europe. According to Methodology 2017+, CTU occupies first place in the rankings for technical universities in the Czech Republic 

For the 2021/22 academic year, CTU in Prague is offering its students 227 accredited study programmes of which 94 are in foreign languages. CTU educates modern specialists, scientists and managers with knowledge of foreign languages, who are dynamic, flexible and can adapt quickly to the requirements of the market.

The Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU) is one of the leading European institutions in the field of life sciences. CZU is not just a life sciences university, but a place of innovative scientific research and discovery. The university is situated on a beautifully landscaped campus, with modern and spacious dormitories, canteen, several student clubs, central library,

cutting edge IT technology and state of the art laboratories. CZU is also a member of the Euroleague for Life Sciences. CZU Prague is one of the top ten public universities in the Czech Republic and was awarded the Diploma Supplement Label in 2012, and the ECTS Label in 2013 by the EC.

Founded in 1348 by the Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV, Charles University has a long-standing tradition. Originally, it had four faculties: the Faculty of Arts, Theology, Law and Medicine. Today, it has 17 faculties (14 in Prague, two in Hradec Králové and one in Plzeň), 4 university institutes, 5 other departments for education, science, research, development, creative activities and information services and 4 university-wide special facilities.

Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem (UJEP) is a young, open and dynamically developing university situated in the Ústí Region, which is located in Northwest Bohemia. It offers 42 Bachelor study programmes, 44 Master study programmes and 18 Doctoral study programmes.

More than 7 400 students currently study at the university on full-time or part-time basis. On average, 1 500 students graduate from the university every year.

The JAMU´s main role is to provide tertiary education in the field of arts (music, theatre, dance, and multimedia) in its accredited study programmes. At the same time it actively pursues academic research and publication while striving to develop international partnerships.

Students and teachers also participate in various programmes and take many opportunities to enhance their skills at partner foreign institutions With Erasmus+ alone, JAMU has contracts with c. 90 institutions from 30 countries.

Established in 1919, Masaryk University (MU), with almost 37 000 students and approximately 1 300 fields of study, is currently the second largest Czech university. Located in Brno, it has ten faculties with more than 200 departments and clinics, encompassing academic disciplines from natural sciences to humanities.

Mendel University in Brno (abbreviated to MENDELU) is a public institution with a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research that has driven new ways of thinking since 1919 and proudly bears the name of J. G. Mendel, the founder of modern genetics. 

Palacký University (UP) was founded in 1573 as the second university in the Czech Lands. Today it has more than 23 700 students at 8 faculties, covering fields from health sciences and medicine through modern and classical languages, philosophy, teacher training, sciences, law, sports and theology. 

Palacky University Olomouc (UP) is a university with long-standing traditions, located in the historical City of Olomouc. Students constitute nearly 25% of the city’s population, which creates a unique atmosphere of a real “college town”.

The Prague University of Economics and Business (Vysoká škola ekonomická v Praze, VŠE) is a public university founded in 1953. It is a leading Czech university in fields of management and economics. About 14 thousand students are enrolled at VŠE and it employs more than 600 qualified academics.

Graduates occupy positions in the sectors of banking, accounting and auditing, sales, marketing, business and trade, public administration, information technologies, etc. Studies at VŠE meet the requirements of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).

The Silesian University in Opava, a legitimate member of the European University Association, belongs among top five universities created after 1989. Since its foundation in 1991, the university provides students with comprehensive education in the fields of mathematics, physics, history, literature, languages, economy, gastronomy, pedagogy, health care, public administration, and the arts.

Tomas Bata University is an open and flexible higher education institution, developed in accordance with five central values: entrepreneurship, openness, usefulness, creativity and responsibility. This is also one of the reasons why TBU counts among the first higher education institutions in the Czech Republic to be awarded the institutional accreditation.

TBU offers studies in over 200 accredited degree programmes (1/4 of which are taught in English). The university has modern facilities (including one of the country’s finest university libraries) and an advanced IT infrastructure. Zlín is a medium-sized attractive student town located 300 km east of Prague and close to Vienna.

The University of Hradec Králové is a university with a dynamic and youthful environment that provides high-quality tertiary education within a large scope of study fields such as Economics, Social Sciences, Humanities, Educational Studies, Natural Sciences and Information Technology.

The University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague (UCT Prague) is among the smaller and more accessible research institutions in Europe. UWB focuses on research (three Research Centres and one European Centre of Excellence) and has a significant position in the field of higher education among the universities in the Czech Republic and within the European space.
