Beyond the Classroom: How UJOP Students Discover Czech Culture in Prague

Posted on 14.5.202614.5.2026 by InfoPoint UJOP

Preparing for university studies in Czechia is not only about language lessons, textbooks and entrance exams. For international students, it is also important to understand the country where they are going to live and study: its history, traditions, urban culture and everyday life.

That is why students at UJOP do not learn about Czechia only in the classroom. Excursions, cultural visits and academic activities help them connect language learning with real places, real stories and real experience.

One recent example was a visit to U Fleků, a historic brewery in Prague and one of the well-known places connected with Czech brewing tradition. Students from UJOP humanities programmes explored the historical cellar, learned about the brewery’s development since the late 15th century, watched a short film about traditional brewing methods and visited the brewhouse. They also saw the historical interiors of the restaurant, where the atmosphere of old Prague is still preserved.

For students preparing to study humanities and social sciences, this kind of visit is more than a city excursion. It is a practical way to see how history, architecture, craft, language and everyday culture are connected. These themes are especially relevant for students who plan to continue at Czech universities in fields such as history, cultural studies, political science, international relations, media studies, philology, social sciences or related disciplines.

UJOP Foundation Programmes help international students prepare for university studies in Czechia step by step. Students develop their Czech language skills, study academic and subject-specific topics, prepare for entrance exams and receive guidance when choosing universities and submitting applications.

Living and studying in Czechia starts before the first university lecture. It starts with understanding the language, the city, the culture and the people around you. This is one of the important strengths of studying at UJOP: students are not left alone in a new academic and cultural environment.

If you are planning to study humanities or social sciences in Czechia, a UJOP Foundation Programme can be your first step towards university.
