At present, the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University provides undergraduate university-level education in the following educational study programmes and  fields:

• Master study programmes of General Medicine and Dentistry
• Bachelor studies in the study programme of Specialization in Health Care in the fields of Addictology, Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, Nutritional therapy
• Bachelor studies in the study programme of Midwifery in the field of Midwifery
• Follow-up Master studies in the study programme of Specialization in Health Care in the  elds of Addictology, Intensive care, Occupational therapy, Specialist nutritional therapy 

Organization of studies

The study at the Faculty is divided into one-year sections, and for evaluation of the progress the system of credit points is used. When enrolling for a section of studies, a student registers for compulsory subjects of the given year of studies but at the same time has the option of choice from a list of more than 410 facultative subjects, 78 of which are taught in English language.

Entrance procedures for Bachelor and follow-up Master programmes were only performed in biology, or with tests focused on the applicants’ knowledge gained at the Bachelor stage of the studies, respectively. Only the Bachelor programme of addictology included a special test in basic addictology, which was meant to predict the applicants’ interest in the  eld.

Study General Medicine, Dentistry or Health Care for free in Czech

You can get medical education for free if you learn Czech and pass the entrance exams in Czech. At the Institute of Charles University ÚJOP, we have been preparing international students for admission to medical faculties for more than 60 years.

We offer the best option of preparing non-Slavic students for medicine in Czech. In the first year, you can learn Czech online at our two-semester course. In this case, you will save on accommodation and insurance. However, you have to be prepared that classes start at 8 am Prague time and you need to have stable internet connection, a good microphone and a camera. This way you will learn the language to the B1 level.

In the second year, you can come to the Czech Republic for an offline FLEXI course – it is designed for those who already know the language at the B1 level. At this course, you will continue learning Czech to the B2/C1 level, and you will also study some special subjects to prepare for the entrance exams – physics, chemistry and biology.

Studies in General Medicine

General medicine is the core  field of studies at the Faculty, and it takes six years. The  rst three years are mainly about theoretical and pre-clinical subjects while the second half of the studies is given to clinical subjects. The studies are implemented in accordance with the recommended curricula. These are based on accreditation of the study programme but at the same time continuously evaluated in terms of content matter as well as structure so that they can re ect the development of science and the teachers and students’ views.

Apart from compulsory subjects according to the curriculum, students have to register for some optional subjects every year too, which they choose in the given year of their studies by their own preferences and interests. Credit points obtained in optional subjects must equal not less than 5 per cent of the total. Therefore, in each year of studies the student should obtain 3 credit points for optional subjects. The optional subjects are analysed every year by the Dean’s Board and undergo regular innovations (involving introduction of new subjects as well as closing some subjects that are repeatedly not attended or withdrawn by their principal teacher).
